Rynn HardestyIn my last two posts, I mentioned that yes, Contentnea Creek Books sells fan fiction (as a fundraiser); and yes, the writers here are actually all the same person (so far). While that might hurt sales, I felt like it was important to be upfront and provide full disclosure.

But that naturally leads to questions about my writing process — including why I write in these particular genres.

Not every writer makes the same choices I do. But for me, in the end, it was simply a process of evolution. I started out writing “shippy” fan fiction for science-fiction franchises. Crossing over into science fiction romance is simply the next step.

…but you can’t sell fan fiction!

Cat Lady FirebirdVisitors to the site may be surprised to find fan fiction titles for sale here. Wait a minute, you might think. You can’t copyright or sell fan fiction. What’s going on?

That’s exactly right: you can’t copyright the entire work, or sell it for profit. That constitutes copyright and/or licensing infringement, and more than that, it’s just plain rude. I’m well aware of that and I even agree with both, because I understand the reasons why — and I want to see more official merchandise from my favorite universes!

That said, there are some things you can do with fan fiction. The important part is not to infringe on the original intellectual property holders’ rights. As long as you do that, you can copyright the original portions of the work. And you can usually sell it as a fundraiser. That’s what we’re doing on this site, and further, we’re not pretending anything otherwise.

Admitting It: One Writer, Four Names

Jennie St. ThomasVisitors perusing this new web site may notice that the authors’ headshots look similar. I’ll admit it: they’re not imagining things.

At the moment, the authors at Contentnea Creek Books are all the same person. In fact, none of those pen names are my real name, although it’s not terribly difficult to figure that out. (It’s also no big secret, although I’m not going to post it here.)

Restless Hearts: Fresh New Covers!

Cat Lady FirebirdBack in December of 2025, while trying to combat writer’s block, I made a set of covers for my Restless Hearts series. They were low-resolution, web-based pictures meant to establish a specific “feel” for the series on sites like FanFiction.net. I began by making a single template, and then I simply swapped out the book titles in order to create the covers.

They weren’t terrible covers by any means, but they suffered considerably from my lack of PhotoShop skills. What I had in mind wasn’t what came out in the graphic at all. Not being a graphic artist, I accepted the limitation and called it a day.
