About Contentnea Creek Books

Contentnea Creek Books is an independent press based in eastern North Carolina.

Founded in 2026, Contentnea Creek Books exists to publish stories that entertain, inspire, and occasionally ask difficult questions. Current projects include science fiction, romance, historical fiction, and selected nonfiction works. It is currently based in Farmville, North Carolina.

The press is named for the Contentnea Creek, a major tributary of the Neuse River. It runs from Wilson to Grifton, passing by Farmville on the way. The word, which is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable, is believed to derive from a Tuscarora (Skarù·ręʔ) term meaning “fish passing by.”

Most of our titles will be available in ebook and print formats through a wide variety of retailers and libraries. While our genres may vary, we’re especially interested in stories with memorable characters, strong senses of place, and themes that linger after the final page.

Whether we’re publishing science fiction set among the stars or stories rooted here in eastern North Carolina, our goal is the same: to share books worth spending time with.
